In an effort to keep you abreast of changes that may affect the relocation process for domestic transferees as well as foreign nationals and their ability to work in the United States, Relocation America International would like to inform you of an official process change at the Social Security Administration (SSA). The Social Security Administration, to address the rapidly growing problem of fraud and identity theft, will no longer issue social security number print-outs to those requesting a new or replacement card.
At one point in time, SSN applicants were permitted to return the day following successful application to receive a printout with the applicant’s social security number. That is no longer the case.
As of August 1, 2014, applicants must now wait the (up to) 2 week period to receive their social security card in the mail, as no further information or printouts will be provided by SSA. In the past, a return visit to the local SSA office would have netted a print-out of the issued number.
